Malawi for Jesus is the outreach ministry of Holy Cross Pentecostal Church. We are driven by the Great Commission found in Mark 16:15-18: "He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned...'"
Our heart is to see the nation of Malawi transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit. Through crusades, church roofing projects, and pastoral training, we are witnessing a harvest like never before. We believe in the unity of the body and working together to fulfill God's purpose for this beautiful nation.
This ministry began on September 4, 2011, during our first outreach to Malawi. It was born from a shared vision between Apostle Sam, Bishop Edwin Thera, Reverend George Mkandawire of the Holy Cross Pentecostal Church of Malawi (HCPC), and Martin and Suzette De Villiers of XTUPIE Ministries in South Africa. Together, they committed to bringing the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the people of Malawi through strategic, hands-on outreach.
The initial strategy was simple yet effective: identify areas where HCPC intended to plant a church, and once that church was established, host a dedicated outreach weekend. Converts were encouraged to return to their existing congregations or join the new HCPC local branch.
This model proved incredibly successful. Since 2011, HCPC has expanded from 50 churches across three countries to over 356 churches across six nations—and the growth continues.
In April 2016, we evolved our approach by conducting longer outreaches and uniting multiple local churches for larger events. This allowed us to reach more people simultaneously and extend our mission further into the northern and southern regions of Malawi, with many areas now benefiting from multiple return visits.
Throughout our fourteen-year partnership, we have been blessed to provide roofs for 17 churches and assist in numerous construction projects. Our mission has also extended to disaster relief, providing financial aid following several devastating hurricanes. We have remained committed to humanitarian aid during times of crisis, providing over a ton of maize for distribution during the COVID-19 pandemic and again in February 2026 to combat food shortages in the Central Region.
While we honour the memory of Apostles Sam, Larson, and Oupa, who have since gone to be with the Lord, the ministry remains vibrant. As new leaders rise, our partnership with HCPC stands firm, continuing to reap an eternal harvest of souls.
Founder (late)
Founding Apostle, sadly Apostle Dr. HS Gama, went to be with Our Lord on 29 September 2023. He was truly a man of God and served God with dignity and honour. I had the privilege of knowing Apostle Sam personally and I can attest to these facts and would add he was a very good friend too.
General Secretary HCPC
The General Secretary of HCPC Bishop George is the reason why Suzette and I are ministering in Malawi after he invited us to come to Malawi in South Africa in June 2009. Bishop George and his wife Rachael have been part of the Holy Cross Pentecostal Church and Malawi for Jesus team since 2011 and we are very close friends.
General Overseer of HCPC
General Overseer of HCPC Bishop Elton and his wife Lucy have been ministering in Bolero near Rhumpi for many years. In 2019 he was promoted to General Secretary and join our team in April 2021 and in 2023 he was promoted to Assistant General Overseer as Apostle Sam Gama's health deteriorated and ordained as General overseer in August 2024.
Malawi for Jesus Founders
Bridging the gap between international missions and local Malawian ministry needs. Bishop Martin and Suzette have been ministering all over the world since 1987 and have extensive evangelical experience serving in South Africa, Belgium, Netherlands, Nigeria, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe. In September 2011 they founded Malawi 4 Jesus while doing their first outreach in Malawi and have never stop serving God in this part of His Vinyard.
Our primary goal is to preach the undiluted Gospel of Jesus Christ, bringing salvation to every corner of Malawi through mass crusades and personal evangelism.
Empowering local pastors with sound biblical teaching and leadership skills to effectively shepherd their congregations and impact their communities.
Supporting church planting initiatives and providing physical infrastructure, such as roofing for rural churches, to ensure a permanent place of worship.
Fostering collaboration among different denominations and ministries to present a united front for the advancement of God's Kingdom in Malawi.
